Overview:

Abstract: With the exception of the backside, the entire Bureau Mazarin is provided with a marquetery in Boulle-technique. There are ornamental and figurative images in première partie and contrepartie. The combination of organic materials such as turtletank and wood with non organic brass has caused problems which in the course of decades have led to considerable damages. Missing parts were to some extent replaced by the use of different kinds of luting and adapted to the surrounding verneer by means of various inpaints. In the end several reworkings were provided with coats. This thesis aims at the reconstruction of the reworkings’ history and at producing a draft for the conservation of the piece that takes the reworkings into consideration.
