Abstract: | This paper deals with the specific problems that appeared during the conservation of two Central Asian silk fabrics from the 6th-7th century. After a short introduction damages on both textiles are described in detail. Different scientific examination methods were carried out to identify and characterize materials and additional products. Based on these results a conservation concept was established. Wax stains on one of these silk fabrics were removed by solvent treatment on a suction table. Both objects were treated by wet cleaning and were pressure mounted for display and storage. |
