Abstract: | The aim of this research is the improvement of repair mortars used at the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia for the stabilisation of endangered, weathered, sandstone surfaces. The defining points are a calculated sieve line, suitable grain components and binder. Specific requirements for the repair mortars are determined by the physical parameters of the Angkor Wat sandstone, and additional demands are made by the different weathering forms and mechanisms. Extensive tests with repair mortar samples are made in the laboratory in order to adapt the properties of the mortars to the properties of the sandstone. The manufacturing, mixing and working procedures for the application of the mortar were all improved in selected test areas at the temple following the results of these tests. |
