Overview:

Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with the examination of a map of the Duchy of Lüneburg from 1593 from the Hildesheim City Archives. Due to the current fragile state of preservation, the further handling of the object, especially with regard to the full-area lamination and its history, will be discussed. With the help of non-destructive, optical examinations and by collecting characteristic features, the carrier material paper, the printing technique and the textile lamination will be analysed. Based on this, the materials as well as the history of production and use can be traced. The aim of this work is to provide an assessment of the state of conservation based on the results of the examination and to formulate recommendations for conservation, taking into account restoration ethics principles.
