Abstract: | This Master´s thesis focuses on the conservation concept of a cloth from the Near East that can no longer be unfolded due to "glued" layers of painting. The special nature of this textile is reflected in the so-called Roghan painting, a decorative technique in which thickened oil is artistically applied to textiles. Cultural-historical connections are shown in detail. In various test series, suitable methods of moistening with solvents will be investigated in order to finally make the glued layers of painting flexible in a moisture chamber system and to detach them from each other. The work also includes research into the composition of the materials and the causes of their condition, which are illustrated using the artist's own sample materials. |
