Mathilde Schulze: Reconstruction and preservation - incompatible partners? Possibilities and limits of the reconstruction and presentation of a brick façade section from Assur in the Pergamonmuseum Berlin Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The subject of the master´s thesis is a collection
of glazed bricks from the collection of the
Museum of the Ancient Near East in Berlin. The
thesis examines presentation possibilities for the
bricks in the reconstructed façade compound
against the background of their object-, material-
and condition-specific characteristics and
presents concept proposals for their
implementation. The primary requirements are
the reversibility of the installation form and the
object safety of the objects in the fixed
installation, taking into account preventive-
conservational recommendations. The objective
of the work is to create a comprehensive and
realisable exhibition concept. At the same time,
the work serves as an empirical study of
presentation and reconstruction methods as well
as mounting forms of architectural elements and
large objects in the museum space and maps
them in excerpts.
