Abstract: | The subject of this diploma thesis is a life-size polychrome painted wooden sculpture dated around 1500 with the depiction oft the Holy Mary on the crescent moon. The sculpture originates from Zschopau in the Ore Mountains and has been the property 0ort h Museum of Decorative Arts 0ort h Dresden State Art Collections since 1907. Ist fragmentary layer build up and the lime wood carrier are discolored and darkened after extensive historical conservation measures (glue impregnation, paraffin-resin conservation). The focus 0ort h diploma thesis is on the removal 0ort h historical conservation media and dirt, which revealed the original manufacturing technique. A concept was developed 0ort he handling 0ort h fragmentary paint and the measures to stabilize the partially-cracked picture support, to create a stable and aethetic condition which is adequate 0ort he museal exhibition. |
