Overview:

Abstract: The present paper deals with the survey of the inventory and condition of a collection of plant models by manufacturer Robert Brendel that is part of the collection of instructive models of the Institute for Special Botany at the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena. The objects help with illustrating the mediation of botanical principles and were commercially sold. Examined are manufacturing technology, purpose of the objects and their history. Therefore, technological- and natural-scientific analyses as well as objects of comparison have been consulted. A catalogue lists the details and conditions of the single models. The evaluation of the causes of damage and the conception of measures for conservation and restoration are another focus. The already executed measures are presented and recommendations for storage and transport are given. Finally an outlook for further measures and the digitalisation of the gathered data are presented.
