Abstract: | The subject of this thesis is the development of a test series to study isocyanate-curing clearcoats as a protective coating for weathered polyester laminates based on the material condition and the conservational requirements of a specific object. The Bulle Six Coques house by Jean Menaval (1967) is made of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin with a white gelcoat. Its aged state should be preserved to determine the object’s appearance. The conservation concept includes firstly retouching and cementing of surface imperfections and discolorations. Secondly, a transparent coating to protect the gelcoat from weathering effects. To identify suitable materials, clear coats, colored laquers and cements are artificially weathered on the original substrate in order to evaluate the aging behavior of the material combinations. |
