Overview:

Abstract: The present paper deals with the survey of the inventory and condition of an oriental pendant lamp which is part of the ethnographic collection of the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen in Mannheim. Further aspects of this Bachelor Thesis are the examination of the manufacturing technology and the electrification as well as the art-historical and cultural-historical classification. For this purpose, technological- and natural-scientific analyses as well as objects of comparison and art-historical searches have been consulted. The evaluation of the causes of damage and earlier restoration activities are further intentions of this assignment.
Recommendations for conservation and restoration as well as already executed measures are likewise presented. A possible placing of the lamp into operation is considered. Another focus is set on more adequate storage conditions in order to prevent the material from further damage.
