Abstract: | In 2013 the estate of carpenter Robert Herrmann (1884-1964) was given to the Schulgeschichte und Schularchiv Fachschule Holztechnik und Gestaltung foundation in Hildesheim. This foundation is operated by the city of Hildesheim. The estate consists of 30 interior architecture drawings, among those several drawn in watercolor. Aim of this thesis is to create and apply a concept of preservation for the contaminated and partly physically heavily damaged drafts. The terminus of concept of preservation is defined as a thorough concept of preservation to keep degradation processes at the lowest possible level. This involves demands to the location of storage as well as to cleaning, packaging, usage and regular condition controls. Like in many other smaller archives this school archive has little means to invest into the application, so that the focus of the concept development will be to meet the conservational standards at minimal cost. The scaffold of this concept is formed by the condition report, which will be demonstrated exemplary at four records and by a situational report about the storage condition of the current storage location in the archive. This will be used to work out the object requirements and to create economic advises for a more efficient storage situation, which is suitable for a long term preservation and usage of the objects. |
