| Abstract: |
The versatile Flügelaltar shows wooden sculptures in its inside. It was built at the beginning of the 15th century. Today it is placed in the Hildesheim Saint Bernward Church. The original polychromy was investigated; remains of a second polychromy, completation, fillings and facings demonstrate former treatments and its bad condition. The task of the work was the examination of the construction and its polychromy referred to the Retabel, the Predella and four chosen sculptures, and to develop a treatment of urgent conservation work, as well as possible restoration measures and suggestions for preventive treatments.
