Overview:

Abstract: In a small forest area in the northwest of Braunschweig there is a so-called „light-air-cottage“, which dates from the year of 1892 or 1893. The present thesis considers its cultural significance and the possibilities of its conservation. At first, light-air-cottages as a type of building are presented, and in addition to a technical and historical classification, the significance of the Braunschweig cottage is explained. Based on an object analysis, the damage is investigated and its treatment specified. There is a focus on different possibilities of restoration of the wooden parts which are in contact to soil.
On this basis, an adequate strategy of conservation is developed.
