Abstract: | Forms and reasons of decay of engobated, glazed renaissance terracotta from Lüneburg, exposed to weathering, are discribed. To preserve and set flaking glaze, application of backfill and consolidation media are proposed. In the experimental part several back fill materials based on binders like silica dispersion, tetraethoxysilane, HGZ and a mixture of acrylic and silica dispersion with different fillers and additives are produced, using a dispersing device. Properties like velocity of penetration and sedimentation, shrinkage, adhesion and period of usability of those mixtures are investigated. Consolidation solutions of different types of epoxy-resins in solution, elastified silicic-acid-ester and acrylicresin, are chosen. Hardening of epoxy resins in solution are investigated. Specific ceramic specimens were produced in order to measure tensile-strength after conservation treatment. |
