Overview:

Abstract: This thesis examines the transferability of the preservation policy for the digital long-term
preservation of the German National Library of Science and Technology in Hanover to
analogue collections. A preservation policy ensures a standardised process in digital
preservation and bundles information on digital collections in one place. In order to
develop such a place for analogue collections, an overview sheet was created based on a
collection of the TIB with the so-called GOST standards. The collection is currently in an
evaluation phase in which a decision is being made on the future procedure with regard
to original preservation, digitisation or discarding. For this purpose, preservation levels
have been defined to standardise this process. In addition, an extensive discussion is
taking place on these procedures. In order to be able to make a balanced decision,
analytical studies will examine the materiality of the holdings so that an evaluation from
the perspective of preservation can be included in the decision-making process. Finally,
the possibilities that the digital world offers for analogue conservation will be addressed.
