Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This thesis deals with the painting Men at the Pier I by Rainer Fetting from 1983, which is
part of a large-scale diptych.
The main damage is limited to the upper left corner of the painting. It is characterized by
a weakening of the canvas and paint layer with resulting losses and tears. Based on
extensive investigations, the cause of the damage can be assumed to be moisture
influence accompanied by microbial infestation.
The focus of the thesis is on the development of a concept for the conservation of the
canvas and paint layer damages. This includes a detailed concept for a partial strip-lining.
Furthermore, executed treatments are documented.
In addition, Rainer Fetting´s painting technique could be examined more closely through
an interview on materials and techniques used in his oeuvre.
