Overview:

Abstract: This diploma thesis is considering the conservation and restoration of the painting “Gerhard Johann David von Scharnhorst“ (1813) from the artist Friedrich Bury (1763-1823). The painting was cut in its format, doubled and stuck on a hardboard.
The emphasis of this work is to classify, document and to remove former cement attachments, overpaintings and varnishes. Due to the fact that the Bury’s art technology has only been insufficiently investigated, the research on the painting’s art technology in combination with the comparison of two further paintings of Bury form the basis of an additional main topic of this work.
