Abstract: The presentation of paintings in a microclimate showcase makes special demands on the design and construction of these showcases. Climatic influences are a decisive factor for damage of paintings.
A detailed representation of the history of development of the microclimate showcases from the beginning of the 20th Century to the present illustrates the manner in which the protection of the paintings from climatic fluctuations has changed over a 100 years old history.
Combined with an overview of materials the result of this work used to be as an inspiration and a guide.
