Zusammenfassung: | The thesis deals with the possibilities of protective surface treatment of marble against outdoor weathering. Included is an artificially made calcium-oxalate patina by means of changing the surface of the marble chemically with ammonium-oxalate, as well as diverse materials able to form a film to coat the marble. The group of coating films involves a microcrystalline wax which has proven itself in conservation of metals, modern products which apply themselves to current research in nanotechnology, and a photo-catalyst able to produce a self-cleansing surface. In an extensive series of tests, the surface treatments are monitored to see if they qualify for a protective coating against outdoor weathering. The tests determining applicability and hygroscopic characteristics, the microbial use, colour changes and weather resistance were done on samples, according to trial requirement, of Carrara marble, Thüster limestone or glass. |
