Zusammenfassung: | This thesis is about the restoration of the so-called ‘Gothaer Aequatorial’, which was originally made by the firm Repsold & Soehne in Hamburg in 1860. The first part of the thesis introduces the object, shows the current damage and explains the basics about the work to be done. The restoration plan is explained and discussed and refers to scientific analyses already made. These include the composition of the colour scheme and corrosion. The results of all investigations carried out are included in the thesis. The second part of the thesis deals with the practical implementation of the restoration concept. The implementation is illustrated by using relevant examples, which explain step by step how the original object is being restored. Emphasis is placed on the restoration of the mechanics as well as the new colour scheme, which will be necessary for all surfaces. The future use and position of the object is taken into account. |
