Zusammenfassung: | The problems of conserving archaeological glass finds are analysed on the basis of four glass objects from a late Roman-era excavation at Lauriacum. The conservational focus—adhesive treatment of fragments—is discussed theoretically. Selected glues are analysed and tested for the applicability in conservation measures. Fragmented glass objects are largely safeguarded against further damaged by adhesive treatment. Furthermore, treated objects present their original aged surface, including traces of production, ornament and usage. In addition, technological aspects of glass production are considered. Scientific examination and analyses provide insights into glass composition and mechanisms of corrosion. |
