Zusammenfassung: In this thesis the combination of celluloseethers and ethylsilicate is evaluated. The possible use of these materials in the conservation of paintlayers and surfaceplaster is tested. Inspired by their use in practical applications, their efficiency is tested on samples. These samples consisted of air setting lime mortars and different painting techniques and media.
Tested were Tylose MH 300 and Klucel E in combination with Funcosil 300. The efficiency of the respective consolidation methods are examinated using different examination techniques. Employed were different optic assessments, water absoption, adhesion of the paintlayer, resistance to drilling etc. It was studied in which way the celluloseethers influence the forming of a gel in ethylsilicates, and what effect they have on the penetration of a substrate. These properties were analysed with microscope using (thin) cross sections, ultraviolet light, FTIR and the electron microsope with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The possibilities and limitations of this method are discussed and further approaches proposed.
