Zusammenfassung: | This bachelor thesis from HAWK Hildesheim is dedicated to the preservation and documentation of 53 unknown painting fragments originally from the former ballroom of Countess Yarmouth at Leinstraße 19 in Hannover. The primary objective of this work is to inventory the collection and compare the fragments to gain a better understanding of the relationships among the objects. The fragments consist of paintings on textile supports, the pictorial layers of which have significantly degraded due to heat exposure. Various methods were employed for the examination, including imaging techniques in the infrared and ultraviolet ranges, as well as a structural analysis of the textiles. Over the course of the study, many of the fragments were able to be attributed to a portrait of Elizabeth Stuart based on a historical illustration. The evaluation of the results of the structural analysis and the art technological examination revealed significant similarities both in terms of the support material and the pictorial layers, indicating a common origin. In addition to investigating the relationships among the objects, conservation measures were also undertaken on the fragments. |
