Zusammenfassung: | This Thesis researches whether an inventory of large sized prints should be climate controlled by adding sorbent materials to the storage drawers as buffering materials. The reason for this is the carrier cardboard, which is suspected of being acidic and therefore contains pollutants, but cannot be separated without damaging the graphics due to the aged mounting technology. First, chemical detection and near-infrared spectroscopy are performed on samples of the carrier board, proving that the board is extremely acidic and unstable, but due to the very low moisture content of the material and the black paint finish, no migration to the mounted graphics can take place. After a brief review of how climate control affects the degradation processes and migration of pollutants, common sorption material as well as the situation on site are considered. The new packaging material already shows a clear buffering effect in the drawers, so various method are recommended to further reduce the air space in the individual storage drawer. |
