Zusammenfassung: | Despite numerous studies, the consolidation and conservation of polychrome painted works of art is a current field of research, as the conference of the Association of Restorers in March 2019 showed. The central topic was the particular challenges of polychrome works of art, including the complex conservation and restorative issues involved in dealing with damaged surface structures, as well as the ethical aspects due to an altered perception of the colourfulness of the works of art. They provide the first remarks on the problematic nature of painted works of art. The art-technological investigation of a polychrome-painted limestone picture support from the Sculpture Collection of the National Museums in Berlin forms the cornerstone for approaching a conservation solution to these challenges. The work provides an overview of the current condition of the work of art, which conservation and restoration measures are suitable for its consolidation and which methods can be applied in a way that is gentle on the object. A conservation and restoration concept is developed on the basis of extensive literature research, the results of analyses and tried and tested materials and methods. Central questions of conservation ethics are formulated and discussed before practical implementation. |
