Zusammenfassung: | The subject of the thesis is the preservation and restoration of a panel painting from the collection of the Kreuzenstein castle, Leobersdorf (Lower Austria). The portrait of the Emperor Maximilian dates back to the 19th century, which was confirmed by the results of the material analysis. The artist and the provenance of are unknown. Due to structural damage, the panel painting was split into three parts. The butt joints have been damaged by insects and poor adhesion of the paint layer caused several paint losses. The diploma thesis focuses on the preservation and re-joining of the original panel wood, the consolidation of the paint layer and surface cleaning. Furthermore, a sample area for the reintegration of lost paint layer is demonstrated by applying a structured filling, multi-layer retouching and varnishing. |
