Zusammenfassung: This Master-Thesis is about the Gothic clerestory window no. 116, located in the southern transept of Chartres Cathedral and created between 1228 and 1231; it shows the images of John the Baptist, Saint Christopher, Saint Nicasius, Saint Denis, Jean Clément du Mez, and the figure of a donor.
The in-depth analysis of the historic windows is carried out on technological, ideological, design and iconographic levels, whereby also the political and social circumstances at the time of the creation of the window are being considered.
Exemplary colour-charts of the individual panels allow for a comparison among the panels themselves and also with the studies of Viollet-le-Duc. Moreover, it could be demonstrated that the faces used here are in fact combined modules.
The reason for choosing this topic was the removal of the window for conservation and restoration purposes in 2012. This offered an opportunity to examine and evaluate the glass paintings from close quarters after partial removal of corrosion products and formed the basis of the present work.
