Zusammenfassung: | The lute of Rudolph Höß (Munich 1698) is on loan to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nuremberg. Like most lutes it has been altered on many occasions and has survived as a combination of parts with various origins. The body of the lute was in an overall weakened condition caused by wood-boring insects, considerable deformations and cracks. An optical neutral consolidation method and a reshaping method were developed and applied. Black discolorations on the surface were analyzed and tests for their removal were undertaken. The instrument´s history of alterations was theoretically reconstructed. |
