Zusammenfassung: | This thesis deals with the phenomenon of deteriorated, sticky magnetic layers of modern audio tapes. After reviewing the present state of research, the appearances of 18 sticky tapes have been studied. Their playback performance and aspects were documented. With the purpose of applying a systematic and scientific approach to the problem, a series of tests using heat treatment was conducted studying the influence of different exposure times on a back coated magnetic tape with polyesterurethane binder. In order to rationalise the effects happening upon heat treatment, new parameters for evaluation were tested. Photomicroscopy and roughness measurements provided good proof of surface alterations after the treatment. Improvement of the audio quality was shown with digitisation, however uncontrollable losses in latent damaged spots were observed, too. |
