Zusammenfassung: | This thesis is based on the special question in stone conservation, how it is possible to preserve a strongly decayed tuff stone which is part of a historic building or monument. Because of the inhomogenous composition, the pore size distribution and a high water absorption capability tuffs are very susceptible to weathering processes. For conservators the consolidation is problematical. That’s why this issue is the object of investigation in the present thesis. Besides the theoretical alteraction with the natural decay and the ongoing state of research in tuff consolidation comparable analysis on Weiberner Tuff (German volcanic tuff) are carried out. As consolidants commercial silic acid esters and low viscous epoxy-resins in different concentrations are used. The effect of the different sealers and the modification of the stone properties are examined by instrumental analysis and test methods in consideration to the pore space, the mineral structure, the humidity transport, the strength and the thermal and hygric expansion. |
