Zusammenfassung: The MAK Vienna has enabled public access to parts of its collection of contemporary art with the Depot of Contemporary Art in the Arenbergpark flak tower (built in 1943) since 1996. By 2013, the visitable storage will be reorganized: As MAK Tower it will provide expanded storage and exhibition space. Against this background, the work provides a comprehensive conservation risk assessment in the huge reinforced concrete building as well as sustainable solutions for the museum practice. The agents of deterioration incorrect climate, direct physical forces, contaminants, pests, dissociation, water, and radiation are discussed. The results support decision-making processes and create a basis for discussing future conservation strategies in the depot. Moreover, the work exemplifies the practical application of risk assessment in the field of preventive conservation.
