Zusammenfassung: | The conflict surrounding the conservation of modern and contemporary architecture is illustrated using the example “Church of the Holy Trinity” (1974-1976, Vienna), popularly known as the “Wotruba-Church.” This project focuses on defining the current condition of the building’s structure through a comprehensive stability and damage analysis by applying a variety of non- and low-destructive examination methods. Moreover, necessary treatments are exemplarily undertaken, for which different materials commonly used in the preservation of historical architectural heritage are tested prior to application. These findings provide the basis for a treatment strategy and a well-founded discussion concerning further measures. It is argued that the artist’s and architect’s wish is to be respected, namely to permit natural ageing of the surfaces. |
