Zusammenfassung: The master thesis is focused on the investigation and preservation of lime stucco at the Bakong Temple in
Cambodia. This Hindu temple complex is unique evidence of the technical and artistic skills of the Khmer.
The stucco technique and the used materials at the Bakong Temple were examined for the first time. The
high variety of ornaments and figures of lime mortar as well as the existing lime plasters are highly
endangered. This is mainly due to hollowly lying areas, cracks and crack networks. In order to easier
recognize the present detoriation forms and identify new detoriation types, weathering phenomena are
described and characterized in a self-developed glossary of weathering forms. Focus of this thesis is the
development and implementation of a conservation concept for the acutely endangered decorations. Based
on the existing literature and own investigations, pointing and injection mortar as well as consolidation
materials have been tested and evaluated.
