Zusammenfassung: This bachelor thesis by Johanna Wuppermann is a documentation of the results of a
restoration survey of the monumental wall painting „Entry of Henry the Lion into Jerusalem“, one of two paintings by the artist Leonhard Gey from 1869 in the dining hall of
Marienburg Castle in Pattensen.
Since the two paintings have neither been recorded nor reworked since their creation,
the aim of this work was to record, classify and evaluate the condition of the painting
for the first time.
Through phenomenological and radiological examinations, contextual research and the
photographic documentation of the phenomena, it was possible to gain an impression
of the artist‘s work process, to name the content of the paintings and to determine
and assess damage processes. The results of this work provide both a basis for finding
a concept for the restoration and conservation of the paintings and an insight into the
working method of the artist Leonhard Gey in the context of 19th century painting techniques.
