Zusammenfassung: This master´s thesis deals with eight book cover fragments from the Stadtarchiv Hildesheim. The objects are fragments of leather-covered wooden board bindings that were characteristic of the Middle Ages. Some of the objects show severe damage. The aim is to classify the eight-book cover fragments chronologically. The book cover fragments´ materials, binding techniques, and design forms will be examined to determine their chronological classification. The results will be compared and evaluated with the information on the characteristic binding features found in the literature sources. This will provide clues that will allow the time of origin to be narrowed down and the history of the objects to be traced back. In addition, recommendations for measures to ensure the long-term preservation of the objects are determined. The state of preservation of the objects is determined. Through this determination, recommendations are made for measures that relate to the condition of the objects.
