| Zusammenfassung: | The icon examined in this study comes from the collection of a Viennese icon dealer and depicts the Christian motif of the Anastasis. The icon is dated to the period between the 17th and 18th century and follows the style of the Italo-Cretan school. In addition to the historical and stylistic classification, the theological significance of the icon in Orthodoxy is being discussed. Furthermore, the painting technique of the object is compared to other Greek icons based on scientific investigations and the existing damage phenomena that led to the current condition of the object are analysed. The focus of this work is the development and implementation of a concept that considers the authenticity of the object in regard to its historical value and at the same time ensures to reach an overall appearance in the sense of the aesthetic-functional claim of the icon as a material component of a living practice of faith. |
